American actress, George Maharis starred in several movies and tv shows before he died. Some of these include Quick Before It Melts, The Satan Bug, Sylvia, A Covenant with Death, The Happening, The Most Deadly Game, Mission: Impossible, Fantasy Island, Kojak, McMillan & Wife, Barnaby Jones, Police Story, Switch, Cannon, Night Gallery, The Bionic Woman, Murder, She Wrote, and more.

At the beginning of his career, he appeared on numerous off-Broadway shows including Deathwatch, Studio One, Kraft Television Theatre, Goodyear Television Playhouse, Naked City, Search for Tomorrow, and more, during the early stage of his career.

Maharis was best known for his role as Buz Murdock, in the 1960 series Route 66, which also co-starred Martin Milner. When Maharis starred in the series, he was 32, even though the character he was playing was aged 23. His outstanding performance got him nominated for an Emmy award in 1962.
Unfortunately, he left the series when season three was almost over. He left because he had health-related problems including hepatitis. He once shared that he left Route 66 for health reasons, which was largely due to long hours and grueling conditions while shooting on location.
