American actor, Ed Ames played several roles in numerous movies and tv shows. Some of them include Daniel Noone, Cricket on the Hearth, The Ames Brothers Show, McCloud, Murder She Wrote, Operation: Entertainment, The Danny Thomas Hour, Johnny Carson: King of Late Night, and more.

He made his acting debut acting in an Off-Broadway production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible and went on to star in others including The Fantasticks, Carnival, and more.

He was regularly cast as a Native American due to his dark complexion and sharp facial features. He played Chief Bromden in the Broadway production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. 

Ames also starred in the 20th Century Fox and played the role of the Cherokee tribesman, Mingo on the NBC television series Daniel Boone, with Fess Parker. His character’s father was an English officer, the Fourth Earl of Dunmore, played in the show by Walter Pidgeon. In that show, Mingo was the Earl’s eldest son and thus entitled to claim the title as the fifth Earl but decided to remain part of the Cherokee Nation.

He also starred in other series including The Rifleman, The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, Redigo, and more. He also appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. 

Ames recorded under the name Eddie Ames while still with the Ames Brothers. He released the single Bean Song (Which Way to Boston), and more. As a solo artist, he released his first RCA Victor chart single, Try to Remember. 

Some of his other solo songs include Time, Time, When the Snow Is on the Roses, Timeless Love, Who Will Answer?, Apologize, Do You Hear What I Hear? and more.

Ames died on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at age 95. No cause of death was revealed.
