Australian sailor, Jessica Watson became famous after becoming the youngest person to sail around the world alone and unassisted. She was just 16 years old when she set that record. She left on sail alone and unassisted on 18 October 2009. She departed Sydney and headed northeast, crossing the equator in the Pacific Ocean before crossing the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. According to sources, she sailed nearly 23,000 nautical miles. She returned from her adventurous sail to Sydney on 15 May 2010, just three days before her 17th birthday.

How is Jessica Watson remembered?

Jessica Watson is known as one of the most adventurous sailors. She is also remembered as someone who navigated some of the world’s most remote oceans and survived seven knockdowns and 210 days alone at sea. When she completed the voyage, she was met by the then Prime Minister and was declared an Australian hero. She was also named Young Australian of the Year in 2011.
