Emmett Till was born to Mamie Elizabeth Till-Mobley and Louis Till in Chicago, and at the time of his death, he was a student of James McCosh Elementary School. Emmett Till suffered a number of illnesses at his youthful age but he defied the odds to become hardworking.

What led to the death of Emmett Till?
Emmett Till died on August 28, 1955, in Drew, Mississippi, after he was shot, mutilated, and lynched by a white family. According to history, it was stated that Emmett was accused of offending a white woman in her family’s grocery store and that led to his lynching.
Other reports revealed that Emmett Till whistled at a white woman and that led to his lynching.
