What is the story of Flight 370?

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was a scheduled international passenger flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, which disappeared on March 8, 2014.

The flight departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport with 239 people on board, including passengers and crew.

The crew of the Boeing 777-200ER, registered as 9M-MRO, last communicated with air traffic control (ATC) around 38 minutes after takeoff, while the plane was flying over the South China Sea.

The plane vanished from ATC radar screens minutes later, but it was tracked by military radar for another hour, deviating westward from its planned flight path and crossing the Malay Peninsula and the Andaman Sea.

It flew out of radar range 200 nautical miles (370 km; 230 mi) northwest of Penang Island in Malaysia’s northwestern Peninsular.

The disappearance of Flight MH370 triggered a massive international search effort, involving numerous countries and organizations.

Various theories have emerged regarding what may have happened to Flight MH370. One theory suggests that the plane experienced a catastrophic mechanical failure, leading to the loss of all on board.

The Malaysian Ministry of Transport’s final report, issued in July 2018, was inconclusive, but highlighted Malaysian ATC’s failures to communicate with the aircraft shortly after it vanished.
