Procedure when someone dies at home.

When someone dies at home, first call 911 and tell the 911 operator and report to the operator that the person has died, and make the operator know that the death of the person was expected and there is no emergency exists.

Present the DNR to EMTs when they arrive at the scene. They will now come to an agreement that the person has died and will contact the funeral home.

Even if the death was expected and you were present, it will be considered ”unattended” so be prepared to deal with law enforcement people, unless maybe a hospice or physician was present before the person’s death.

When the death was unexpected, you should call 911 immediately.EMTs will come and attempt resuscitation, but when that fails, the police or Sheriff’s deputies will come to investigate the death. You need to keep everything about the dead person including the medications for further investigations.
