What is the plot of The Fabelmans?

The Fabelmans follows the Fabelman family, with newcomer Gabriel LaBelle playing teenage Spielberg (here named Sammy Fabelman), as they move from New Jersey to Arizona to California.

Young Sammy Fabelman falls in love with movies after his parents take him to see “The Greatest Show on Earth.” He later starts to make his own films at home and works to achieve his dreams.

The Fabelmans revolves around Sammy’s life at home with his artistic mother Mitzi (Michelle Williams) and engineer father Burt (Paul Dano). It centres on the conflict between artistic drive and personal responsibility and finds Spielberg digging at the family roots that helped make him a beloved filmmaker.

The Fabelmans had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022, where it won the People’s Choice Award.

The Fabelmans was named one of the top ten films of 2022 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute.
