What is the origin of the Nupe dance?
This traditional dance of the Nupe people dates back to centuries ago; a rite borne out of their penchant to dance when they achieved victories in wars. In Africa dancing is a way of communicating and expressing ideas and emotions, as well as a way of exercising and enjoying life.

This movement of the body is done mostly by females. The name is derived from the language. Traditionally, the dance is performed at festivals and ceremonies, which include but are not limited to marriage and naming ceremonies.
Indeed, in this present day, the dance is performed officially in Nupe-hosted or graced parties and environments. A thing to note is that this dance may seem difficult to the non-indigenes of Nupe but extremely easy to the indigenes. Indeed, one man’s meat is another’s poison.
