Chapman, who was then a rookie relief pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, threw a fastball that PITCH/fx measured at 105.1 mph. MLB later increased that to 105.8 mph.
Aroldis Chapman’s fastball is widely regarded as the fastest pitch in Major League Baseball right now despite more than 575 career innings and countless pitches hitting 100 mph or more.
The following year, Chapman threw a wild pitch that nearly hit All-Star outfielder Andrew McCutchen in the face.

A few years later, history repeated itself, this time with the Yankees. Chapman struck out the Baltimore Orioles in the ninth inning with a 105.1 mph fastball.
According to PITCHf/x, Chapman’s fastest pitch in Major League Baseball was clocked at 105.1 mph (169.1 km/h) on September 24, 2010, against the San Diego Padres.
On July 19, 2016, Chapman matched his previous record of 105.1 mph with a pass to J. J. Hardy of the Baltimore Orioles.
