Each day, a candle is lit on a special candle holder called a kinara, and one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa is discussed. The colors of Kwanzaa are red, black, and green. These colors hold symbolic significance for the African people and their history.

According to the official Kwanzaa website, red represents the blood that is shed in the struggle for freedom and justice, black represents the people of African descent, and green represents the fertile land of Africa and the hope for the future.

The candles on the kinara also reflect these colors. Three of the candles are red, three are green, and one is black. The black candle is placed in the center and represents the first principle of Kwanzaa, which is unity (umoja).

The red candles are placed on the left side of the kinara and represent the principles of self-determination (kujichagulia), cooperative economics (ujamaa), and creativity (kuumba).

The green candles are placed on the right side of the kinara and represent the principles of collective work and responsibility (ujima), purpose (nia), and faith (imani).

As for Kwanzaa emojis, there is no official one yet. However, some people use a combination of emojis to represent Kwanzaa, such as 🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️ for the kinara, 🌽 for the corn that symbolizes children, 🍎🍊🍌🍉 for the fruits that symbolize harvest, 🎁 for the gifts that are exchanged on the last day, and 🎉 for the celebration itself.
