Amos’s path to acting unfolded when he landed his first major TV role as Gordy Howard, the weatherman on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” from 1970 to 1973. However, his breakthrough came with the portrayal of James Evans Sr. on “Good Times” from 1974 to 1976.
