Jill Wendy Dando was an English journalist, television presenter and newsreader.

Jill Dando spent most of her career at the BBC and was the corporation’s Personality of the Year in 1997.
At the time of Jill Dando’s death, her television work included co-presenting the BBC One programme Crimewatch with Nick Ross.
Prior to her death, Jill Dando was involved in three well known relationships; firstly with BBC executive Bob Wheaton, then with national park warden Simon Basil and finally with gynaecologist Alan Farthing.
Jill Dando met gynaecologist Alan Farthing in 1997 on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.
At the time they met, Alan Farthing was separated from his his wife and a couple of months later, Farthing’s divorce was finalized.

Jill Dando and Alan Farthing announced that they were engaged on 31 January 1999 and were set to get married on 25 September 1999.

However, the wedding didn’t take place as Jill Dando was gruesomely murdered on 26 April 1999.
On the morning of 26 April 1999, Jill Dando was shot dead outside her home in Fulham, southwest London.
Jill Dando’s death prompted the biggest murder inquiry conducted by the Metropolitan Police and the country’s largest criminal investigation since the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper.
A local man, Barry George, was convicted and imprisoned for the murder, but after eight years in prison he was acquitted following an appeal and retrial.
In 2012, the Serbian ‘warlord’ Arkan was named as a suspect in the case, although he had died in 2000.
Since then, no other suspect has been charged with Jill Dando’s murder, and the case remains unsolved despite police identifying over 2,000 potential suspects.
Jill Dando’s fiancé Alan Farthing was appointed as a consultant gynaecologist at St Mary’s Hospital in 1997, where he also became an honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College, London.
Alan Farthing is a specialist in gynaecological cancer care, and an internationally recognised expert in the use of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery
Alan Farthing also has a private Harley Street practice, and works as a consultant at two teaching hospitals in London: Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in Shepherd’s Bush, and St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.
