An American electronic engineer by the name of Gerald Anderson Lawson. He led the team that invented the commercial video game cartridge and is renowned for creating the Fairchild Channel F video game console.

Lawson began experiencing symptoms of diabetes in 2003, losing the use of one leg and vision in one eye.

He passed away from diabetes-related complications on April 9, 2011, almost a month after receiving the IGDA Award.

He had been living in Santa Clara, California, when he passed away, and was survived by his wife, two kids, and his brother.
