Dominique Dawes is a former artistic gymnast known for her exceptional skills on the uneven bars and floor exercise.

Dawes gained prominence as a member of the “Magnificent Seven,” the U.S. women’s gymnastics team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

The Maryland native won several medals in many international competitions and World Championships.

Dawes competed for the United States from 1989 to 2000, and became the U.S. all-around senior National Champion in 1994.

She was also the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic gymnastics medal, earning a bronze in the floor exercise at the 1996 Games.
