What is Bono best known for?

Bono is an Irish singer-songwriter, best known as the lead singer for the popular Irish rock band U2 and prominent human rights activist.

Bono has become one of the world’s most well-known philanthropic performers, and the National Journal named him the most politically effective celebrity of all time.

Aside from music, Bono is a social justice activist, both through U2 and as an individual. He is particularly active in African advocacy, having co-founded DATA, EDUN, the ONE Campaign, and Product Red.

He has been dubbed “the face of fusion philanthropy” for his success in enlisting powerful allies from a diverse range of leaders in government, religious institutions, philanthropic organizations as well as for spearheading new organizational networks that connect global humanitarian relief with geopolitical activism.

Bono has been recognized for his charitable contributions. Bono was named a Time Person of the Year in 2005.

In 2007, Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom awarded him an honorary knighthood for “his services to the music industry and humanitarian work,” and in 2013, he was made a Commandeur of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters).
