What is Billy Strings famous for?

Billy Strings is an award-winning American guitarist and bluegrass musician whose album Home won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album in 2021. His music seamlessly combines traditional bluegrass with elements of progressive bluegrass, Americana, roots rock, outlaw country, and even psychedelia.

Billy Strings is known not only for his instrumental prowess but also as one of acoustic music’s most expressive vocalists. His melodies often carry a breezy quality, but there’s depth within the lyrics, especially evident in songs like “The Fire on My Tongue”.

Billy Strings’ professional journey began when Don Julin, a mandolin player, invited him to join a paying gig in 2012. This partnership lasted for the next four years. In February 2017, Strings was named one of the six new rising stars of bluegrass by Acoustic Guitar.

Billy Strings has toured with Greensky Bluegrass, The Infamous Stringdusters, Leftover Salmon, I’m With Her, Cabinet and others. He also collaborated with Molly Tuttle on the songs “Sittin’ on Top of the World” and “Billy in the Lowground”.
