Julian Lloyd Webber’s instrument is known as the Barjansky Stradivarius cello, after its former Russian owner, Serge Alexandre Barjansky (1883-1946) used to premiere the Delius Concerto in Frankfurt on January 30, 1923.

Lloyd Webber’s many recordings include his BRIT Award-winning Elgar Cello Concerto conducted by Yehudi Menuhin, the Dvorak Cello Concert and many others.

Lloyd Webber has also made several recordings of shorter pieces for Universal Classics including, Made in England, Cello Moods, Cradle Song and English Idyll.
Why Did Julian Lloyd Webber Stop Playing Cello?
In 2014, Julian Lloyd Webber announced his retirement from public performance after suffering a herniated disc in his neck. His final public performance was on May 2, 2014, at the Festival Theatre, Malvern, with the English Chamber Orchestra.
