Defending champion Charles Oliveira has been stripped of his title and will be unable to win it back in the main event. As a consequence, only his opponent Justin Gaethje is eligible to win the championship.

Oliveira failed to make the 155-pound weight limit at Friday’s weigh-in.
The UFC released a statement confirming Oliveira would forfeit a percentage of his purse after weighing in at 155.5 pounds.

“As of this moment, Charles Oliveira remains the UFC lightweight champion, but upon the start of the main event headliner tomorrow night he will vacate the 155-pound title,” the statement read.

Oliveira won the vacant lightweight belt in May of last year, after defeating Michael Chandler in UFC 262 via technical knockout.
He then successfully defended his title against Dustin Poirier by submission in UFC 269 which was held in December.
The fight between Oliveira and Justin Gaethje will be held tonight; If Oliveira wins the fight, the belt will be vacant. If Justin Gaethje wins the fight, he will win the championship”.
