Formed in 1991, the band consists of guitarist David Bryson, drummer Jim Bogios, vocalist Adam Duritz, keyboardist Charlie Gillingham, multi-instrumentalist David Immerglück, bassist Millard Powers, and guitarist Dan Vickrey.
Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its debut album, August and Everything After (1993). Featuring the breakthrough hit single “Mr. Jones” (1993), the album sold more than seven million copies in the United States.
Counting Crows received two Grammy Awards nominations in 1994, one for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal (for “Round Here”) and one for Best New Artist.
