Gabriel James Byrne is a film director, producer, screenwriter, audiobook narrator, and author from Ireland. His playing career began at the Focus Theatre before he moved on to the Royal Court Theatre in London in 1979. Byrne made his screen debut in the Irish drama serial The Riordans and its spin-off series Bracken.

He has appeared in almost 70 films for some of cinema’s most well-known filmmakers. He has received two Tony nominations for his parts in Eugene O’Neill’s work, as well as the Outer Critics Circle Award for A Touch of the Poet. Byrne has three Emmy nominations for his work on television.
Before becoming an actor, Byrne worked as an archaeologist, cook, and Spanish and history teacher at Ardscoil Éanna in Crumlin.

What happened to the actor Gabriel Byrne?
In 2010, Byrne first stated publicly about being sexually abused. He claims that when he was about 11 years old, he was sexually abused by a member of the Christian Brothers in England.
In the book, Byrne describes the night of the abuse, saying, “Even years later, it feels like the night has been concreted over.” I’ve been poking at it with a pin ever since, scared to use a jackhammer because I’m afraid of what’s buried inside.”
