Sean Couturier, a Canadian professional ice hockey player who was born in America and currently plays for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL), was born on December 7, 1992. In the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the Flyers picked him eighth overall.

Following his tenure with the Hounds, the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s (QMJHL) Drummondville Voltigeurs selected Couturier second overall in the 2008 QMJHL Entry Draft, and he started playing junior ice hockey for Drummondville at the age of 15.

When Couturier was a rookie in 2008–09, he saw little ice time and frequently played on the lower offensive lines. Coach Guy Boucher advised Couturier that if he wanted to be an outstanding player, he should concentrate equally on his defense and offense and develop into a two-way player.

Couturier has had two back operations since his last game on December 18, 2021. Before the end of the previous campaign, he started working out again, but the Flyers choose to bench him.

Whatever it took, Sean Couturier was going to play hockey again. The Philadelphia Flyers center endured the ups and downs of recovery and rehabilitation from back surgery to repair a herniated disk for 22 months. After eight months of continued pain, numbness, and migraine headaches from spinal fluid leakage, he was forced to repeat the procedure.
