Following a criminal trial in 2014, she was found not guilty of conspiracy to hack voicemails, two counts of conspiracy to pay public officials, and two counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice by a jury at the Old Bailey.

In October 2013, Brooks was among seven people to go on trial for phone hacking. She denied all charges of conspiracy “to intercept communications in the course of their transmission, without lawful authority,” conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, and conspiracy to obstruct a police investigation.
Brooks resigned as chief executive of News International in July 2011 amid public outrage over hacking allegations and was summoned by police the following week.
