“He died peacefully surrounded by loving family and friends in Los Angeles earlier this morning. Always and forever the most beautiful human being, may he rest in peace,” Luaka Bop announced.

What did Pharoah Sanders say about his career?

Pharoah Sanders once revealed in an interview that he also wondered what he wanted to do in his career.

“I was always trying to figure out what I wanted to do as a career. What I really wanted to do was play the saxophone – that was one of the instruments that I really loved. I would rent the school saxophone. You could rent it every day if you wanted to. It wasn’t a great horn. I never owned a saxophone until I finished high school and went to Oakland, California. I had a clarinet, and so I traded that for a new silver tenor saxophone, and that got me started playing the tenor,” he said.
