Peter Simonischek’s cause of death has not been disclosed yet. He was reported dead on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at age 76. He was best known to international audiences for his leading role in the critically acclaimed comedy-drama Toni Erdmann which was released in 2016.

“A great actor and a wonderful colleague. The death of Peter Simonischek makes me very sad right now. Just recently I saw “Oktober, November” with him again. At the film’s premiere party, we were talking about his death scene and he asked me if he had overplayed it there. Of course, I said no, although I had no idea about the last rebellion of dying. At least I believed him,” actor Wolfgang Zarnack said after his death was announced.

Simonischek was a celebrated stage performer and had been a regular ensemble member of the Burgtheatre since 1999. He often appeared at the Salzburg Festival and had played the title role in the play Jedermann so many times.
He appeared in numerous films including Herrenjahre, The Lenz Papers, Love and Fear, Sukubus, Success, The Mountain, Krucke, and more, in the 1980s.
