Former Spanish footballer Pelayo Novo died at the age of 32 on February 28, 2023, after being hit by a train in his hometown of Oviedo.

Pelayo Novo’s body was unrecognizable and in a bad state when it was found. Pelayo Novo García, known simply as Pelayo, was born on November 1, 1990, in Oviedo, Spain.
Pelayo Novo appeared in 116 Segunda División matches over six seasons, scoring a total of 12 goals for Elche, Córdoba, Lugo and Albacete.

Pelayo Novo made his official debut with Elche CF of Segunda División on 19 August 2012 as a substitute for Carles Gil in the final minutes of the 4–2 home win against SD Ponferradina.
On 6 October 2012, Pelayo Novo scored his first goal in the league, contributing to a 2–1 away victory over CD Mirandés. On 28 August 2014, Pelayo Novo signed a two-year deal with Albacete Balompié.
On 31 March 2018, Pelayo Novo had permanent paralysis. Pelayo Novo retired in 2018 after the fall. Pelayo Novo later took up wheelchair tennis and became the regional champion in 2021.
