This was after calls came for her resignation over a racist remark she made about her colleague, Mike Bonin, and his son.

There had been a leaked audio of Martinez insulting Bonin for having a black son, even though he is white.

It happened during the Martin Luther King Day parade, when Bonin’s 3-year old son put up a behaviour and Martinez said “They’re raising him like a little white kid, this kid needs a beatdown”.

She went ahead and called the child “ese changuito,” meaning “that little monkey” in Spanish.

Following these, Martinez has released a public note of apology as a result.

“I am truly ashamed. I know this is the result of my own actions,” she said.
