What happened to Jacques Haitkin?

American cinematographer, Jacques Haitkin who served as the Director of Photography on several movies has been reported dead by his family.

According to them, he died on March 21, 2023, after over 5 years of being diagnosed with ALS – also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He died of ALS and pneumonia. He was 72 years old at the time of death.

He was the Director of Photographer (DP) on A Nightmare on Elm Street, which was directed by Wes Craven. He also worked in that role on several movies including Galaxy of Terror, The House Where Evil Dwells, Ticks, The Silence of the Hams, Bloodsport, The Forgotten, Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, and more.

He also worked on several popular movies in his career; most of which raked in a good amount of money at the box office. He manned the camera and did second-unit work on three of the Fast & Furious franchise, two Captain America movies, Cherry 2000, Last Man Standing (1995), The Expendables (2010), X-Men: First Class, Kong: Skull Island, Black Panther, Venom, and more

He was survived by his two sons; Zak and Harry Haitkins, and his niece, Meri Haitkins who is also in the movie industry, working as a producer.
