Daniel Day-Lewis, widely regarded as one of the greatest actors of his generation, announced his retirement from acting in 2017. This decision came as a surprise to many fans and the film industry as a whole. Day-Lewis had a distinguished career spanning over four decades and garnered critical acclaim and numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards for Best Actor.

In a statement released by his spokeswoman, Day-Lewis explained that he had decided to retire from acting and would no longer be accepting any new roles. He expressed his gratitude to his collaborators and the audience for their support throughout his career.

Since his retirement, Day-Lewis has maintained a private life and has largely stayed out of the public eye.  However, Daniel Day-Lewis was photographed in public in New York City for the first time in years on Thursday, May 18, 2023, as he walked alongside his wife, director Rebecca Miller.

Day-Lewis was spotted walking in West Village wearing yellow sweatpants, a black zip-up hoodie, a blue striped shirt, and a black baseball cap. He also wore silver jewellery, and sunglasses, and had longer hair than fans had seen him with previously.
