Retired Military veteran Dale Dye had sustained gunshot wounds during the Tet Offensive in 1968.

Dye had accompanied the battalion as a war correspondent during a firefight, and along the line, he was asked to replace an assistant machine gunner who had been killed.
In the process, Dye got wounded, due to intense exposure to enemy fire when he tried to retrieve ammunitions and rescue the wounded Marines.
For his bravery, Dye received the Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V” back home.

Dye retired in 1984, and became a Hollywood consultant for war films, helping to portray military operations the right way in films.

Some of the films he has worked on include “Platoon,” “Born on the Fourth of July,” “Saving Private Ryan,” and “Band of Brothers.”
He also went ahead to appear in various films and TV shows, playing military roles.
Some of the movies he has starred in include “Casualties of War,” “Under Siege,” “Mission: Impossible,” “Rules of Engagement”, “Spy Game”, “Mission: Impossible”, “Starship Troopers”, “Entourage”, “Knight and Day”, “Falling Skies”, “No Better Place to Die”, and “Citizen Soldiers.”
