Bob Rice died of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at age 79, on Wednesday night, June 7, 2023, at an assisted living facility in Santa Clara, California.

According to sources, he was the person who reportedly produced one of the first rock video games Journey Escape, released by Data Age in 1982 for the Atari 26000 console.

His composer clients included several top game composers including Cris Velasco (God of War), Dikiciyan (Borderlands), Ouimette (Guitar Hero), Tom Salta (Ghost Recon), Zur (Fallout), and more.

“The world of music for media lost a remarkable giant. Bob Rice was a courageous visionary in the video games world and a relentless power in the music industry who had the deepest understanding of what it means to be a composer and what it takes to be a real human being. Bob never stopped hustling and never gave up hope,” Zur shared in a tribute post.
