What happened between Kesha and Dr. Luke?

American singer and songwriter Kesha and her former producer Dr Luke have been in a contentious bicoastal legal battle for nearly a decade

Kesha accused Dr Luke of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, and she sought to be released from her recording contract with him.

In 2014, Kesha filed a lawsuit against Dr Luke, alleging various forms of abuse and seeking to invalidate her recording contract on the grounds of coercion and abuse.

Dr Luke denied the allegations and countersued Kesha for defamation and breach of contract.

The legal battle between Kesha and Dr Luke resulted in a series of court proceedings, injunctions, and public statements.  In 2016, Kesha dropped her claims of physical abuse in a Los Angeles court case but continued to pursue her claims of emotional abuse and contractual issues.

Kesha and Dr Luke announced in a joint statement on June 22, 2023, that their case had been officially settled, a month before it was scheduled to go to trial

In her statement, Kesha says that while she doesn’t remember everything that happened the night of the alleged assault, she is excited to move on with her life and wishes peace to all parties involved. In his statement, Dr Luke reiterated his denial of Kesha’s original claims. The terms of the settlement were not immediately disclosed.
