What happened between Andre Agassi and Nick Bollettieri?

Nick Bollettieri was a great tennis coach from the United States. His crown jewel was Andre Agassi.

When Agassi first arrived at Bollettieri’s school as a teenager, he immediately caught the coach’s attention because he was unique.

His demeanor, his game, everything screamed superstar. Bollettieri, who aspired to be a star himself, took Agassi under his wing, and the two became inseparable as his pupil became the sport’s hottest thing.

However, the good times did not last forever. Following a grand slam victory with Agassi in 1993, Bollettieri shockingly left the player he claimed he loved like a son.

And if that wasn’t heartbreaking enough for Agassi, Bollettieri didn’t say goodbye in person, but instead wrote him a letter. They haven’t spoken since.

Aside from Andre Agassi,  Nick Bollettieri launched the careers of tennis legends such as Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Mary Pierce, Serena and Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Anna Kournikova at his renowned tennis academy. According to his calculations, 180 grand slam titles would be won by players he coached.
