Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger starred as a mother and daughter in Terms of Endearment in 1983, and while their characters were able to find peace in the end, the two actors have not.
The stars didn’t get along when they first met, and in the years since, they’ve both spoken out publicly about their disagreements.
Debra Winger’s reputation of being outspoken and sometimes hard to work with has also not kept directors from casting her in movie roles.

In addition to the rumored feuding, she also quit Hollywood to spend time with her family. In a 2002 interview with The Guardian, Winger discussed the role her family played in her decision to retire.
Winger stated, “I don’t need a lot of money to be happy.” “I had a new marriage, I wanted another child, and it seemed absurd to disappear for three months to work on another film. I had also turned 40, an age when things in Hollywood can get really tough. I looked around and decided it was time to leave.”
Debra Winger returned in 2001. Her most recent role was in the 2021 series Mr. Corman.
