American actor, director, and musician Alan Arkin won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film “Little Miss Sunshine” (2006).

In the film, Arkin portrayed the character of Grandpa Edwin Hoover, a heroin-snorting, foul-mouthed yet endearing grandfather. His performance in the film was highly praised for its comedic timing and emotional depth, and it earned him critical acclaim, as well as the prestigious Academy Award.
Aside from his Academy award, he received a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, two SAG Awards, and a Tony Award.Alan Arkin’s acting career began in the late 1950s, and he gained recognition for his performances in theater, film, and television.

Alan Arkin passed away on June 29 2023. Arkin’s death was confirmed to PEOPLE in a statement by his three sons. “Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and a man,” they said.
“A loving husband, father, grand and great grandfather, he was adored and will be deeply missed.” Despite his death being confirmed, an exact cause was not provided.
