Caroline Louise Flack was an English actress and television and radio presenter. In 2014, she won the twelfth series of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and she later hosted The X Factor and Love Island.

As a young presenter and actress, Flack struggled with long-term mental health issues, attempting suicide and self-harm on several occasions.

She was known to not take well the criticism that came with fame, and TV producer Anna Blue said that “she just wasn’t emotionally wired to deal with all the problems that came with being famous”.

Caroline Flack took her own life at the age of 40 in February 2020 after learning prosecutors would press ahead with the charge over an incident involving her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.

Several of Flack’s friends took part in a charity fundraising event dedicated to her memory in June 2021. The “Climb for Caroline” event challenged participants to climb 24 peaks in the Lake District in 24 hours.

The event’s proceeds were donated to the Samaritans. Olly Murs, one of Flack’s friends who took part, later commented that the event was a particularly fitting tribute to Flack because exercise was one of the strategies she used to manage her mental health.
