He joined the Krakens in July 2022, after spending 15 seasons as the Chicago Blackhawks’ TV color analyst.

Olczyk’s contract expired on June 30 — the same day the Blackhawks let go a number of lower-level employees — and negotiations have stalled in recent weeks.

Olczyk has been a long-time horse owner and bettor.

After winning the Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994, Olczyk took the Cup to Belmont Park for the day and posed with Kentucky Derby winner Go For Gin, trained by New Yorker Nick Zito.

Olczyk is a fan of thoroughbred racing and broadcasting, and he was thrilled to be a part of NBC’s coverage of the American Triple Crown, which he has been following for years.

He has been covering horse racing for NBC for the past eight or nine months.
