The group formed in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now known as WWE) shortly before the “Attitude Era” in 1997 as a counter-faction to another prominent faction, The Hart Foundation, and became one of the WWF’s main driving forces in the Monday Night Wars, competing with World Championship Wrestling (WCW).

The group then grew with additional additions X-Pac, The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn), and Tori, in addition to two other founding members, Chyna and Rick Rude, before the group officially split in August 2000.

DX reassembled in June 2006 as the duo of Triple H and Shawn Michaels for the remainder of the year and again in August 2009 until March 2010, soon before Michaels’ retirement, after a teased reunion in 2002.

In a 2013 WWE audience survey, this incarnation was chosen as the greatest WWE Tag Team Champions of all time.
