Dominique Dawes is a former American artistic gymnast who gained prominence as a member of the “Magnificent Seven,” the U.S. women’s gymnastics team that won the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Born on November 20, 1976, in Maryland, United States, Dawes began her gymnastics career at the age of 10.

She competed for the United States from 1989 to 2000. In 1994, she emerged the U.S. all-around senior National Champion.

Dawes was known for her exceptional skills on the uneven bars and floor exercise.

She was also the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic gymnastics medal, earning a bronze in the floor exercise at the 1996 Games.

Dawes is a World Championship silver and bronze medalist, and a three-time Olympian, making her one of only three female American gymnasts to compete in three Olympics.
