Bette Midler was born on December 1, 1945, in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States. Her mother, Ruth Schindel worked as a seamstress and housewife, while her father, Fred Midler worked at a Navy base in Hawaii as a painter.

Bette Midler started her professional career in several off-off-Broadway plays and rose into the limelight in 1970 after she began singing in the Continental Baths, a local gay bathhouse.

Bette Midler has released 14 studio albums as a solo artist, selling over 30 million records worldwide and even made her film debut with the musical drama The Rose (1979).
