Lee was born in East Meadow, New York, the son of Merrill Schwartz and David Zeldin.

He was raised in Suffolk County, New York, and graduated from William Floyd High School in Mastic Beach, New York, in 1998. He also attended Hebrew school.

He also served as a member of the New York State Senate from the 3rd Senate district from 2011-2014.
