Actress Kirstie Alley died of cancer that was recently diagnosed, according to a statement issued by her family to announce her demise.

According to the statement, “she was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of the never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead”.

Alley, a native of Kansas, rose to fame after taking over the female lead on Cheers in 1987 after the departure of Shelley Long and her character, Diane Chambers.

For her contributions to the film industry, Alley received a motion pictures star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7000 Hollywood Boulevard in 1995.

Alley also took part in the 15th season of Dancing with the Stars. In 2022, Alley competed in season 7 of The Masked Singer as Baby Mammoth of Team Cuddly.
