Ulta Beauty apologised on Monday, May 2, 2022, for emailing customers and telling them to “Come hang with Kate Spade” as part of a promotion for the luxury brand, whose eponymous co-founder hanged herself.
Spade’s body and a note were discovered in her Park Avenue apartment in New York City in 2018. Ulta apologised in a follow-up email to customers on Monday, saying that “a very insensitive choice of words was used and for that, we are very sorry.”

Ulta spokesperson Eileen Ziesemer issued a statement in which she reiterated the company’s response to customers: “We sincerely apologise.”
“Mental health is a very serious, important issue in this country, and we would never take it lightly,” she said. “We appreciate your patience as we strive to improve.”
Kate Spade and her husband Andy Spade founded the brand in the early 1990s, putting up their own money to launch their line of preppy and colourful handbags.
