Melissa Caddick is suspected of misappropriating A$30 million in client funds, primarily from family and friends, over an eight-year period, from October 2012 to 2019.

She is said to have deposited the funds in 37 different bank accounts. The Federal Court of Australia discovered that her behaviour became more aggressive with each passing year, with 2019 being her most profitable year. Caddick allegedly spent the money from investors on two houses in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, as well as luxury cars, designer clothing, artwork, and jewellery.

The court determined in November 2021 that Caddick, through her company Maliver, fraudulently appropriated tens of millions of dollars from investors and operated without the required financial services licence between October 2012 and November 2020. Caddick’s belongings, including her $6 million Sydney home, were announced to be sold in an effort to repay the 72 clients who claimed they were owed more than A$23 million.
