On Friday, January 26, 2024, Erin Moriarty took to Instagram to respond to comments made by former Fox News host Megyn Kelly regarding the actress’s appearance. The remarks by Kelly occurred nearly two weeks prior on her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, where she discussed Moriarty’s facial features and speculated about plastic surgery.

Expressing her dismay, Kelly described her concerns on the podcast, stating, “I find it, like, a sign of mental illness. It’s extremely upsetting. It’s a massive turn-off to me. I just really want to get in the heads of these young girls and say, ‘Please don’t do this.’”

Kelly’s comments were prompted by a now-deleted Instagram photo of Moriarty that went viral on X, accumulating 36 million views and 136,000 likes. Users debated whether the image provided evidence of Moriarty undergoing plastic surgery.
In response to the controversy, Moriarty addressed the situation on Instagram, stating that she was unaware of the attention the photo had garnered due to dealing with one of the most challenging weeks of her life. She expressed horror at receiving a message about a false and counterproductive video of Kelly commenting on the matter.

Moriarty clarified that the “before” photo used by Kelly for comparison was taken approximately a decade ago and described the accusations as “utterly misinformed.” She explained that the makeup on that particular day involved significant contouring, and she left feeling confident.
Disturbed by the scathing comments and the negative attention, Moriarty decided to disable comments on her Instagram posts, emphasizing that the situation had turned into harassment and false news.
Expressing her disillusionment, Moriarty announced her decision to leave Instagram, addressing her 1.9 million followers. She attributed this decision to the “horrific allegations” and “verbal abuse” she faced.
In a direct rebuke to Megyn Kelly, Moriarty wrote, “Shame on you Megyn Kelly. Shame on you, Fox News (vought incarnate),” referencing Vought International, a fictional corporation portrayed as evil in “The Boys.” She rejected the implication that her photo reflected a worsening situation for women, comparing it to her conviction that Kelly’s resignation would leave women in a better place.
As of now, representatives for Megyn Kelly have not responded to requests for comment from Business Insider. This incident follows a pattern for Moriarty, who has previously addressed internet trolls and criticism about her appearance in September 2022. In that instance, even “The Boys” creator scolded fans who mocked Moriarty’s looks.
