Matteo Messina Denaro is a Sicilian mafia boss who has been on the run since 1993.

He is considered one of the most powerful and dangerous members of the Cosa Nostra, the Sicilian mafia.

Messina Denaro is believed to be the current boss of the powerful Mafia clan from the province of Trapani, in western Sicily, and is considered the new “boss of bosses” of the Cosa Nostra.

However, on January 16, 2023, he was apprehended in a private clinic in Palermo, Sicily’s capital after being wanted for nearly 30 years.

Messina Denaro is wanted for a wide range of criminal activities, including murder, extortion, and drug trafficking.

He is believed to have played a key role in the resurgence of the Sicilian mafia in the 1990s, after a period of decline in the 1980s.

He was convicted for the fatal bombings in Milan, Florence, and Rome in the late 1990s, as well as the murder and torture of an enemy’s 11-year-old son who testified against the Sicilian Cosa Nostra.

He is also suspected of being involved in several high-profile killings, including the 1992 murder of anti-mafia prosecutor Giovanni Falcone.
