American singer and songwriter, Madonna has done amazingly in Africa through philanthropic activities. In 2006, she launched a charity work called Raising Malawi, where she pledged to take care of orphans and vulnerable children in the country through health, education, and community support.

According to sources, she donated $11 million from her own pocket and also raised over $18 million to help build schools and hospitals in Malawi.
“I felt like there was another deeper meaning and reason to be there – to, again, come to the service of people who have been marginalized by a disease that nobody wanted to talk about in Africa. The spread of HIV is so prevalent there because nobody is talking about sex or practicing safe sex, those things are taboo. It was just shocking,” she said.

Who did Madonna adopt in Malawi?
Madonna adopted four children in Malawi. She adopted four kids in Malawi. The first one, David Banda was born on September 24, 2005. He was adopted by Madonna and her-then husband, Guy Ritchie. They adopted him in 2006 while Madonna was visiting the country for a charitable event.

The second African child is also called Chifundo Mercy James who was adopted in 2008. She was born on January 22, 2006. She was adopted from an orphanage in Blantyre, Malawi. Her application was initially rejected, however, it was approved in June 2009.
The last two children were adopted in Malawi as well. They are twins; Stella and Estelle. They were born on August 24, 2012. They are both talented dancers and instrumentalists.
