What did Denzel Washington say to Will Smith?

Denzel Washington has finally spoken up about what he told Will Smith when he hit Chris Rock at the Oscars. When asked about his role in the evening at Bishop T.D. Jakes’ leadership summit on Saturday, he explained: “Well, there’s a saying that when the devil overlooks you, you know you’re doing something wrong.” ‘Oh, no, leave him alone, he’s my favourite,’ says the devil. ‘Please don’t annoy him.’

”When the devil comes after you, it may be because you’re attempting to do the right thing. That night, for whatever reason, the devil took a hold of the situation”

He continued: “Fortunately, there were people there, not just me, but others in the gap. Tyler Perry came right immediately, right over there with me. Who are we to condemn? I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer.”

Will noted in his Oscar acceptance speech that Denzel warned him, “At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.”
