Pakistani-British Islamist and political activist, Anjem Choudary has been arrested by the police. He was arrested in the capital by counter-terrorism detectives on July 17, 2o23.

According to the prosecution, Choudary spoke weekly online in small groups from June 2022 until his arrest, giving lectures on the establishment of an Islamic State in Britain and how to radicalize people.
During the court hearing which lasted for 23 minutes, he remained completely silent aside from confirming his name, date of birth, and Ilford address.

He is currently being accused of membership of a proscribed organization, addressing Al Muhajiroun meetings to encourage support for a proscribed organization, and directing a terrorist organization, contrary to section 56 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
He was charged along with Khaled Hussein. Choudary applied for bail but both of them remain in custody ahead of their next court appearance at the Old Bailey in central London on August 4, 2023. However, none of them entered pleas to any of the charges.
