Jones was notorious for claiming the attack, one of the deadliest in US history, was staged by gun control activists using actors – though he has since admitted it was real.

A Connecticut jury ruled on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, that Alex Jones must pay at least $965 million in damages to numerous families of Sandy Hook victims for falsely claiming they were actors who staged the tragedy.

The verdict, reached after three weeks of testimony in a state court in Waterbury, Connecticut, far exceeded the $49 million ordered by a Texas jury in August in a similar case brought by two other Sandy Hook parents.

Jones has a long history of legal problems stemming from comments he made, including being sued by the parents of Sandy Hook victims.

According to the Washington Post, he apologised in 2017 for spreading the “Pizzagate” hoax that a Washington pizza restaurant was the location of a child sex abuse ring run by Hillary Clinton and her campaign chairman, John Podesta.
