An ESPY Award, which stands for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award, is a yearly award presented by the American broadcast television network ABC to recognise individual and team athletic achievement as well as other sports-related performances during the calendar year preceding a given annual ceremony.

The first ESPYs were given out in 1993. From the show’s inception until 2004, ESPY Award winners were determined solely by fan voting.
Since 2004, sportswriters, broadcasters, sports executives, and athletes have voted, as have ESPN personalities.
Following that, award winners were chosen solely through online fan voting from among candidates chosen by the ESPY Select Nominating Committee.

Some categories awarded at the ESPYS are the Best Action Sports Athlete ESPY Award and the Best Athlete with a Disability ESPY Award.
